About Krinklewood Estate
Nestled in the heart of the Hunter Valley, Krinklewood Estate is a 44-year-old certified organic and biodynamic vineyard, renowned for its elegant wines, timeless charm, and relaxed hospitality. We are entering an exciting new phase with the implementation of Peter Stutchbury’s architectural masterplan, which will see the estate expand into a world-class destination for accommodation, wellness, weddings, events, and dining.
At the heart of this transformation is Cézan Trattoria & Bar, created in partnership with Fennel & Co, offering exclusive catering and bar services for all Krinklewood weddings and events from 2026 onwards as well as an onsite Open Kitchen - Trattoria & Bar operating Thursday-Sunday.
We’re now seeking a General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations, drive commercial success, and ensure that every guest, event, and bottle of wine reflects the magic of Krinklewood.
Role Overview
The General Manager will oversee the operational, financial, and guest experience performance across all areas of Krinklewood — including the Cellar Door, Cézan Trattoria & Bar, Weddings & Events, Accommodation, Wine Club, and Digital Wine Sales.
This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing daily operational excellence with commercial management and strategic implementation. You will work closely with ownership to ensure profitability, compliance, and consistency across all departments while fostering a positive, high-performing team culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. General Operations
- Oversee daily operations across all departments to ensure smooth, efficient, and consistent performance.
- Implement and maintain owner-approved checklists, procedures, and service standards.
- Monitor compliance with internal standards, licensing, and OHS requirements.
- Lead by example to foster a positive, motivated team culture through regular check-ins and quarterly team bonding activities.
- Actively manage the Cellar Door on open days (Friday to Sunday), ensuring exceptional guest experiences and achievement of wine sales and Wine Club targets.
2. Staff & Team Operations
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment, including shortlisting and scheduling final interviews for the owners.
- Oversee onboarding and induction processes, ensuring all staff are fully trained in operational standards and farm-specific protocols.
- Develop, implement, and manage maintenance checklists and schedules for all estate buildings.
- Establish prompt reporting and resolution systems for maintenance and operational issues.
- Conduct monthly one-on-one check-ins with all Cellar Door, Accommodation & Event staff (excluding farm & winery).
- Maintain accurate staff rosters and timesheets, ensuring timely submission to payroll.
- Ensure all staff have clear KPIs, role clarity, and access to necessary training.
3. Wedding & Event Operations
- Oversee the planning and flawless execution of weddings, private events, and corporate bookings, acting as the venue representative on event days and nights.
- Ensure all setups are completed to owner-approved standards and pack-downs are completed before the next day’s operations.
- Oversee RSA compliance for all functions involving alcohol.
- Liaise with vendors, planners, and internal teams to ensure seamless event delivery.
- Ensure end-of-night procedures are completed thoroughly and professionally.
- Enforce a strict no-alcohol policy for all staff on duty or onsite during work hours.
4. Cellar Door & Trattoria Operations
- Take full responsibility for the opening and closing of the Cellar Door, ensuring all operational checklists are completed.
- Deliver five-star hospitality, lead wine tastings, and promote Wine Club memberships.
- Coordinate with Cézan Trattoria & Bar teams to ensure seamless service and guest satisfaction.
- Manage stock ordering, inventory levels, and supplier coordination for wine, food, and bar operations.
- Conduct weekly wine stocktakes and maintain accurate records.
- Drive consistent improvement in sales conversion, service quality, and guest feedback.
5. Sales & Business Development
- Conduct in-person venue tours with prospective wedding and event clients.
- Follow up all leads promptly to convert interest into bookings.
- Proactively initiate and host monthly activations at the Cellar Door to increase visitation and Wine Club conversions.
- Plan and deliver the annual Wine Club member event, ensuring exceptional execution and engagement.
- Collaborate with marketing and digital teams to enhance wine sales and brand storytelling online.
6. Financial & Commercial Management
- Ensure the financial sustainability of all operational areas through proactive cost control, staffing efficiency, and sales performance.
- Report weekly to the CEO on key metrics, including revenue, expenses, profitability, and performance targets.
- Review and manage supplier costs and contracts to maintain profitability.
- Collaborate with ownership on annual budgets, pricing strategy, and business planning.
7. Customer Experience
- Ensure every guest interaction reflects Krinklewood’s warmth, beauty, and attention to detail.
- Maintain a 5-star standard across Cellar Door, dining, and accommodation experiences.
- Lead by example in delivering authentic hospitality, wine knowledge, and brand storytelling.
